ABC Wednesday Challenge - B

It's ABC Wednesday again, and we are off to a good start on the alphabet:

That's right, we are all the way up to B.

B could Be for a lot of different things. From BABOONS to BUMBLEBEES, BALLET, to BEDLAM to BUFFOONERY, and everything in BETWEEN.

We can B Thankful, B Positive and B Happy,

BUT mostly, for me, this week, B is for BACK HOME. It's good to B Back.

It's fun to travel, but we left in a hurry, after the storm took out the power. We were not really prepared, and we just grabbed things and went. So, it was good to come home and start setting our lives BACK to normal.

I had a Tuesday Trivia Tie-in post written and ready to post last night from the campground, but unfortunately, we had no internet connection, so it didn't get posted.

I really wanted to keep to a theme of my ABC Wednesday posts matching my ties for the week, so I am going to post my Tie post here, and BUILD my ABC Wednesday post around that.

So here is my Tuesday Tie post that was supposed to post yesterday:

I thought I was not going to be able to do a Tuesday Trivia Tie-in this week, But, as she so often does, my lovely and resourceful wife came to the rescue.

We were at the campground, enjoying the cool breeze and the sunshine, when she decided that she would start to unpack and inventory some of the boxes she had in the back of the truck. Often, when she goes thrifting, or garage sailing, (yeah I know, it’s the wrong word, , but “sailing” looks more grammatically correct and aesthetically pleasing than “Saleing”) she will collect huge boxes of stuff that sit in the back of the truck for a week or so, as she slowly works through them, taking them out, inspecting each thing for damage, cleaning it photographing it, inventorying it, and all that other stuff she does with it.

So, she was sitting here and all of the sudden she announced that, since the weather was nice, and we were just having a not-going-anywhere kind of day, she was going to unpack some boxes and go though them.

This is always an adventure for me too, because since I don’t go with her most of the time, this is my first chance to see the goodies she got.

Sometimes I miss these sessions, and I end up seeing things for the first time when they appear on her blog. Or sometimes, I sit down for dinner and say, “Wow, where did we get these dishes? “

And she will say something like, “Well… funny you should ask! The plates came from Goodwill, .25 each. The salad plates are from Salvation Army 8 for $1. The soup tureen came from a garage sale over by the high school, got it for .50 because it was missing the ladle. The ladle is the one from the tureen you got me for Christmas, the salad bowl came from The picnic promo at Meijer, where they were selling salads in the bowls for Memorial Day, and I got it from the marked down rack June 1 for $1.50 (It’s actually acrylic, don’t tell anyone. It looks like milk glass) , the glasses are from that box of assorted dishes you pulled from the dumpster last month, and the table cloth and placemats are from that big box of fabric remnants you got free on Craigslist….”

But anyway, I digress, I was talking about her unpacking boxes….

So today, as she was unpacking boxes, she came across a surprise for me that she had picked up at a sale a while back, and it had been tucked in one of her boxes of dishes:

The tie, is a Looney Tunes Mania Tie, Made in Korea, 100% Polyester, designed and Copyrighted in 1994, in the heyday of patterned ties.

It features Bugs Bunny at bat, with Taz pitching

and Marvin the Martian playing an indeterminable position, either second base or shortstop. Since he seems to be flying, somewhere between the two, it’s tough to tell where he is playing.

It doesn’t matter though, because Taz’s fast pitch seems to defy wood bats, and go right through them. I’d hate to be the catcher for that game!

I’ve talked about Looney Tunes history a few times on my blog, but here are a few things you may not have known about Bugs Bunny:

~Bugs Bunny is the main character of the Looney Tunes series.
~Along with Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny was the most enduring American cartoon character of the 20th century.
~Bugs's debut as a star was the 1940 short A Wild Hare, where he first uttered his trademark line, "What's up, Doc?"
~The 1958 cartoon Knighty Knight, Bugs won the Academy Award for animation.
~In 2002, he was named by TV Guide as the best cartoon character of all time.
~According to Bugs Bunny: 50 Years and Only One Grey Hare, he was born in 1940 in Brooklyn, New York (in a warren under Ebbets Field, famed home of the Brooklyn Dodgers),

And, as I was going to associate my ABC wednesday Post with my tie, by writing about baseball, the least I can do is add a few facts about Baseball as well:

~The baseball rule book has changed every year since the first rule book for the National League was issued in 1877.
~In 1866, Charles A. Peverelly wrote, "The game of base ball has now become beyond question the leading feature of the outdoor sports of the United States ... It is a game which is peculiarly suited to the American temperament and disposition; ... in short, the pastime suits the people, and the people suit the pastime."
~Babe Ruth wore a cabbage leaf under his cap while playing baseball, and he used to changed it every two innings.
~Before 1859, baseball umpires were seated in padded chairs behind home plate.
~The first baseball stadium built in the United States was the Forbes Field, built in Pittsburgh in 1909.
~Although left handed, Babe Ruth played right handed in school, because there were no left handed gloves available for him to use.
~And finally, although I have many baseball related ties, baseball remains among my least personal favorites of all team sports. Given the choice, I would watch Curling, Crew, or even Golf before I would watch a baseball game on television.

Please take some time to check out what others were INSPIRED to blog about this week, at

ABC Wednesday,

and feel free to add your own blog to the list as we work our way through the alphabet.

Be sure and join me each Tuesday for Tuesday Trivia Tie-in, where readers are invited to share trivia and show off their treasures.

  4. I love the history of baseball; I did a baseball post this week.

But I think Taz is pitching; he's on the mound, he's just thrown the ball to the plate.
