Weekend Market Report 9-11-10

Welcome to the Weekend Market Report.

This regular feature is a joint venture between myself and Diann from The Thrifty Groove.

I share my adventures at the Farmers Market, and Diann shares her adventures at the Flea Market.
Here is Troys's report

Today started out pretty good at the market. I moved up into the main row, into someone else's spot. He couldn't be there today, so I wasn't stuck way out in the field all by myself. There is supposed to be a new produce vendor next week, so I'm not all alone on the end. We'll see.

Attendance was slow, barely 200 people there today. There was a city wide garage sale going on, so a lot of people were off doing that instead. But I still did OK, all things considered.

I sold out of several of my dried herbs. I need to dry and package more Dill, Oregano, Marjoram, and Sage. I am down to one package of Sage, and out of all of the others.

I am also down to two packages of Bouquet Garni herb blend, so I need to work on making some more of that.

Diann and Bingo stopped by around 1:00 and Diann was going to drop Bingo off with me so she could go do the city wide garage sale, but just as they got there it started to rain.

I stuck it out for a while, and I'm glad I did, because when the other people started packing up, I got some of the business from people who would perhaps have spent their money somewhere else, had the other vendors stuck around. But pretty soon it was pouring pretty hard, and the produce vendor and myself, the two who toughed out the rain both called it a day at about 2:30.

I have a chance to go to one of the other farmers markets in the area, this Thursday. It is their last scheduled day, and they are having some fun events and activities for the kids, so I am thinking I will do it.

I need to get my stock of herbs built back up, as well as making sure I set the tea table up. If I am going to do it, I want to make sure and do it right. I may even make some mint jelly.

The other vendors who do that markets say it is a fairly busy market, with a steady stream of customers.

So, if everything goes according to plan, I should have lots of pictures and fun news to report for next weekend.

That's about it for this week

Here is Diann's Report

OK, Diann got rained out of her market adventures today, but she did stop by the library, where they were participating in the city wide sale. She struck gold, they were selling used books for $2.00 for as many as you could fit inside a plastic grocery back and she got me a bag stuffed so full that you couldn't slip a postcard into it if you tried.

I just counted them and there are 40 books for me and 2 for Bingo. I figure that works out to about 5 cents a book. I am a voracious reader, and will easily read 3-5 books a week, so that bag of books should get me by for the next 2 months.

Be sure and join me each Tuesday for Tuesday Trivia Tie-in, where readers are invited to share trivia and show off their treasures.
