Tuesday Trivia Tie-in # 10 Panda Bear, Panda Bear

Welcome to Tuesday Trivia Tie-in. Each Tuesday readers are invited to share a blog post about one of their collection and a bit of related trivia.

Today I will also be joining Color Carnival
and Nifty Thrifty Tuesday at Coastal Charm.

I will also be linking this post to ABC Wednesday, where the letter of the week is P.

Tuesday Trivia Tie-in was inspired by a great deal I got on an entire rack of ties at an indoor flea market. Added to the ties I already had, I realized I had quite a collection of neat ties. So I started this blog party to show off my collection.

I'd like to invite you all to join. Remember, you don't have to show a tie. Everyone is invited to link up and show off one of your treasures: your pictures, your flowers, your pets, your kids, your parole officer,or anything else that you want to show off, and tell us some interesting information related to it.

My posts will always be about one of my ties, but your posts can be about anything. The point is to share something you have that you want to show off, and add a little background information.

My tie this week is one I bought brand new! That doesn't happen very often, but I couldn't pass it up. I bought it on Ebay from a seller in Hong Kong. It is silk, and hand sewn. The bidding started at 99 cents with free shipping. I actually paid $1.25 for it. Got in a bit of a bidding war I suppose.

When I saw it I knew I had to get it.

It's a Panda Bear Tie! Made by Kai Long of Hong Kong.

It's 100% silk, and I just love the pattern and the color. The manufacturer also makes them in red and blue, but I liked this one best.

A few months ago, Our Princess decided that she had grown up enough that she no longer needed her own bedtime, but should stay awake as long as us. I convinced her to go to bed without a tantrum, with the promise of a story. That evolved into two stories and then three, and now, some nights she gets away with four.

I confess, I enjoy reading and when she snuggles up against me, I could read to her all night long.

One of the books that quickly became one of her favorites is Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. Illustrated by Eric Carle, Published by Henry Holt & Co. of New York.

This book is dedicated to endangered species and lists 10 different animals that are endangered.

I am happy to report that The Little Princess can name them all, from their pictures and can tell you what each one does, (soaring, splashing, swimming, etc.)

It's a cute book, an easy bedtime read, and one of her very favorites.

When I opened my tie and showed it to her, she immediately knew it was a panda bear tie.

She's such a smarty, and the look on her face when she saw the tie was worth the $1.25 it cost many times over.

And now, just a wee bit about Panda bears.

The Panda Bear, or Giant Panda, is native to China. Although the dragon is officially the symbol of China, Pandas are appearing more and more on coins and other items, and have become widely recognized as an unofficial symbol of the country.

Though it is technically a carnivore, the Giant Panda's diet is 99% bamboo. Other parts of its diet include honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, and bananas when available.

Although they look cute and cuddly, Pandas have been known to attack humans, though it seems it is largely out of irratation rather than as predators. I suppose if people were always trying to cuddle me, I may attack them too...

Pandas live 25-30 years and eat 20-30 pounds of bamboo shoots a day.

At one time it was believed that there were less than 1000 Pandas alive, new estimates indicate it is closer to 3000, but that still makes them endangered.

Ok, Now it's your turn. Enter your link below. Make sure you link to your post and not just your main blog.
