But every once in a while I come across one that brings a catch to my throat and a tear to my eye.
I got one like that today. It's just under 5 minutes long, but well worth five minutes of your life, in my humble opinion.
I just want to introduce it with something I wrote in 1991, during the opening days of Operation Desert Storm. It may be a few years old, but the sentiment hasn't changed. I still feel the same way.
While They're There
No one likes to see
their country go to war,
Especially if they can't see
what they're fighting for.
No one like to see
their people have to fight.
That senseless cost as lives are lost
for what they feel is right.
But there's a time and place for protest,
there's a time and place for prayer.
Right or wrong, I don't care,
I'll support them while they're there!
No one likes to hear
tales of grief and pain,
Of fruitless toil on foreign soil
with nothing there to gain.
No one likes to hear
friends and families cry.
Over dreams that end the day they send
their loved ones off to die.
But there's a time and place for protest,
there's a time and place for prayer.
Right or wrong, I don't care,
I'll support them while they're there!
No one likes to know
our work for peace has failed.
That hate and sin have won again,
that fighting has prevailed.
No one likes to face,
the truth we all must face.
There's so much imperfection in
the mighty human race.
But there's a time and place for protest,
there's a time and place for prayer.
Right or wrong, I don't care,
I'll support them while they're there.
Yes, there's a time and place for protest,
But now's the time for prayer.
Right or wrong, I don't care,
I support them while they're there!
This video is Trace Adkins and the West Point Cadet Glee Club performing a truncated version of 'Til The Last Shot's Fired at the Academy of Country Music Awards, in 2009.
This video shows the full length version of the song.
I pray for peace and for the day when not another soldier will die in vain.
